Q:

Do you know how much time you’ll spend working over a lifetime?
Clock Icon

About 1/3 of your life, nearly 100,000 hours!

If you're an entrepreneur or have a demanding job, you’ll spend even more hours working.

With all of that time spent working, shouldn’t it be a source of joy?

Life is too short for work that doesn't bring you joy

It may seem cliche but life is too short to spend your days dreading your work. My simple belief that we all deserve joy in every aspect of our lives is why I created The Joy Collaborative- to help organizations and small business owners center joy in their work.

I use my expertise to

Help organizations create joyful and equitable workplace cultures.

Help small business owners grow and adapt their businesses with their joy in mind. Because being a biz owner shouldn't mean sacrificing your joyful vision for life.

So, whether it's through my consulting work, hosting fun events like The Joy Break Series, or my upcoming venture, The Joy Break Fund, I'm here to help people

boldly chase their joy.

But that’s not all...

I'm a mother, beloved one, educator, speaker, dreamer, activist, artist, multi-passionate entrepreneur, and a future-oriented strategic thinker who believes in joyful living.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me having a joy break and spending time with my family and friends, laughing with my toes in the sand, binging RomComs, singing and dancing, eating pizza (I really really love pizza), or daydreaming about travel.

PEOPLE
ALWAYS

ask...

  • You're an educator, well what do you teach?
I teach amazing college students. My doctoral background is in ethnic studies and critical gender studies. My research interests are critical race theory, queer theory, feminist epistemology, gender, religion, and love (yup I love talking about love). So that means I can teach a wide variety of classes on everything from feminist social movements and introduction to Black studies, to women in hip hop and religion, culture, & freedom. My education gives me a unique lens that I use to create bridges between theory and praxis. This is an invaluable benefit to my clients because it helps me teach complex concepts to people in fun and accessible ways (fun being the keyword.
  • Why do you call yourself the Joy Ambassador?
I call myself the Joy Ambassador because I am the champion of all things joy! I believe joy is essential—not just the reward we get after working hard, but part of the journey itself. I am committed to promoting joyful living and helping people like you reimagine your relationship with work, turning it into a source of joy and sustained fulfillment.
  • What’s a joy break?
A Joy break is an intentional break that you take during your day to do (or not do, that’s just as valid) something that makes you happy & brings you joy. A joy break challenges our society’s obsession with being productive, with extracting our labor, and the pressure to be “on” and “available”. It acknowledges that taking a break to rest or do something purely for joy’s sake is its own form of liberation. The multi-trillion dollar self-care industry will have you believe that when we take a break it needs to be something glamorous, worthy of a story to tell. However, joy can be found in the simplest of endeavors. A picnic at the park, a nap, or catching up with a friend; just as they can be found in the greatest of luxuries. A Joy Break encourages you to cultivate healthy boundaries with your work and shield your eyes from the faux luster of hustler culture. Because you are meant for more than work. 💕
  • Why does joy in work matter?
Joy in work matters because it shapes our lives, both inside and outside the office. People are no longer willing to settle (and rightfully so) for toxic work environments—1 in 5 employees will walk away because of a bad work culture. Happy, fulfilled people don’t just perform better; they’re more collaborative and less likely to burn out. With 57% of employees struggling with work-related stress, prioritizing joy isn’t just a perk—it’s essential for building healthier, more sustainable workplaces. For small business owners, joy means you don’t have to choose between a successful business and a meaningful and joyful life. Whether you’re on payroll or signing the checks, you deserve work that brings you to life…that gives you joy. That’s exactly why I’m so passionate about what I do.

WORDS TO LIVE BY

“Stop putting off joy until some distant future. You deserve joy every day. In work and life. It’s essential to the journey.”
